Beginning next September, students can earn a private pilot’s license while attending Rick Hansen Secondary. The new aviation program begins next school year here at Hansen and has students excited about the opportunity. Congratulations to our boys wrestling team who represented Hansen very well at the National Wrestling Finals at SFU on April 9th. Jasmit Phulka placed first in the Juvenile Men’s 76 kg category and Joban Phulka placed second in the Cadet Boys 60 kg category. Way to go, guys!

Congratulations to Hansen’s wrestling team who place 3rd overall at this year’s Provincial Wrestling Championships. Special recognition goes to Jasmit Phulka and Jovanjit Phulka, who won gold medals in the 74 kg and 60 kg categories respectively.

Just two weeks after a near-fatal car accident, Hansen’s own Kia Posthumus will go through with her plans to carry the torch for the 2010 Winter Games. Kia, a grade 12 student, has already been an inspiration to many, and will continue to do so on Monday morning, when she carries the torch in her wheelchair, pushed by her father, Hank, in Maple Ridge. The Province Newspaper got ahold of this story and felt it was front page news. Click here for the Province article. We are so proud of you, Kia!

Congratulations to Grade 11 student Jasmit Phulka who won Gold in the 69 kg category at the 2010 Commonwealth Youth Wrestling Championships in Singapore. To take home top prize Jasmit had to defeat wrestlers from Singapore, Australia, and Pakistan. Congratulations, Jasmit, we’re proud of you!

Rick Hansen Secondary welcomes Mr. Geoff Davies as Vice-Principal. Mr. Davies has stepped into the Vice-Principal role that Ms. Rousseau has occupied since September with Ms. Rousseau becoming Hansen’s new Principal. Congratulations and best of luck to our new administration team.
